Director James Lewis began his career with the Kane County Sheriff's Office in 1991 as a Deputy Corrections Officer.  During his time as an officer, Director Lewis served in many capacities that include time as a Field Training Officer, Detainee Work Program Coordinator, and an original member of the Corrections Response Team.  He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1998, Lieutenant in 2003, and then to Director of Corrections in 2014.  As a Sergeant, he was assigned to a variety of duties which included Housing Unit Operations, Booking Division and Assistant Commander of the Corrections Response Team.  As a Lieutenant, he has been assigned to Administrative Services, Training Division and Housing Unit Operations, as well as the Booking Division​.

Director Lewis is the recipient of the Sheriff Office Meritorious Service Award on six different occasions and Leadership Award once.  He is a graduate of the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety, School of Police Staff and Command.​


Patrick M. Keaty Lt. Patrick M. Keaty

Lieutenant Keaty has been serving the Kane County Sheriff's Office since 1992.  He served as the Sheriff's Office project manager for the construction of the new Kane County Adult Justice Center.  He served as Commander of Jail Operations and is recognized by the American Jail Association as a Certified Jail Manager.  Lieutenant Keaty is a member of Tactical Officer Association, American Jail Association, and the American Corrections Association.

Lieutenant Keaty is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy.  He is a six-time recipient of the Sheriff's Office Meritorious Service Award and has also received the Leadership Award.


Wayne Carter Lt. Wayne Carter

Wayne Carter has been a member of the Kane County Sheriff's Office since 1991.  In 1996, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and then to Lieutenant in 1999.  As Lieutenant, he has been assigned to the housing unit and to the Booking Division.  Lieutenant Carter is also the former Commander of the Corrections Response Team.

Lieutenant Carter is a graduate of the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety, School of Police Staff and Command.


John V. Hickey Lt. John V. Hickey

John Hickey began his career as a Corrections Officer in 1992.  He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1996 and Lieutenant in 2006.  Lieutenant Hickey was appointed as a member of the Corrections Transition Team in 2007 to assist in the transfer to new facility.

Lieutenant Hickey received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from Northern Illinois University.  He is also a graduate of the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety, School of Police Staff and Command.


Corey Hunger Lt. Corey Hunger

Lieutenant Hunger joined the Kane County Sheriff's Office in 1995.  He was promoted to Sergeant in 2004, and in 2007 was assigned to be part of the new jail transition team.  Hunger was promoted to Lieutenant in 2009 and also served as Commander of Corrections from 2011 to 2014.

Lt. Hunger is a graduate of the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety, School of Staff and Command.  In 2001, he received the Sheriff's Office Eugene Buldak Award for Correctional Officer of the Year.  In 2008, he received the Correctional Officer of the Year Award from the Illinois Sheriff's Association.


Charlie Conklin Lt. Charlie Conklin

Charlie Conklin began his career as an intern with the Sheriff's Office in 1993 and was later hired as a Corrections Officer.  He served as a Field Training Officer, an original member of the Corrections Response Team, and selected as a member of the Transition Team.  Conklin was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2008 and to Lieutenant in 2013.

Lieutenant Conklin received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Law Enforcement Administration from Western Illinois University.  He is also a graduate of Northwestern University Center for Public Safety, School of Police Staff and Command.  He has received the Sheriff's Office Corrections Officer of the Year Award and the Leadership Award.
