It is the mission of the Sheriff of Kane County to provide a safe and secure environment for those in our custody. By establishing a Correctional Response Team, it is anticipated that incidents involving a high risk or emergency situations will be conducted to the highest level of service and professionalism to ensure the safety of the public, our staff, and all detainees.
The Correctional Response Team (C.R.T.) was established for the Kane County Sheriff’s Department in 1992. During that time, the Kane County Sheriff’s Department was one of only two counties in the state of Illinois that fielded an organized, specially trained corrections tactical team. This placed C.R.T. on the cutting edge of the corrections tactical field.
During these last fifteen years, numerous officers have volunteered and dedicated themselves to be highly trained for the purpose of a tactical response. They are aware that these would be for emergency situations. The primary functions of the Corrections Response Team are, but not limited to: riot control, inmate escapes, inmate evacuations, cell extractions, hostage rescue, barricaded inmates and other building entries, and cell searches as necessary.
