When detainees are admitted to the Adult Justice Center, they are immediately assessed by a contracted medical professional. While in custody, the detainees have twenty-four (24) hour access to onsite nursing and medical care. This includes an initial medical assessment and extends to urgent care as well as routine physicals, laboratory tests, x-ray and medication administration. The Facility Medical Department is staffed by a Health Services Administrator, two physicians, a dentist, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, EMT’s, medical assistants and support staff. Medical issues that cannot be managed at the facility are referred to the appropriate providers within the community. Dental services which include fillings, extractions and infection management are also available onsite.

As important as medical and nursing care, the facility also offers detainees a proactive team of mental health clinicians and a psychiatrist to assist those suffering from acute or chronic mental health disorders. The mental health clinicians evaluate every detainee upon their arrival at the facility. The initial assessment of the detainee facilitates treatment planning which may include suicide prevention/interventions, medication management, substance detox, group or individual counseling sessions, and post-incarceration program placement. Additionally, the mental health clinicians offer the detainees various methods to better handle anxiety, stress and anger during their incarceration.
