Garden Crew

In 1998 the Kane County Sheriff’s Department initiated a program called the Female Garden Crew. The program was intended to give our female population an opportunity to make better use of their time and provide a service to the community. Through the years the Garden Crew has raised and sold produce in an effort to raise funds for battered women and other community groups.

Northern Illinois Food Bank

This work detail grew out from the Garden Crew. Female detainees work one day a week at the Food Bank packing boxes and filling backpacks for the community.

Kane County Electronics Recycling

This is a new work detail that is intended to give the male population an opportunity to give back to the community. Male detainees work once a month assisting the public during the County’s electronic recycling program, in which the public brings computers and other electronics to be recycled. The male detainees assist the public by unloading the equipment from vehicles and loading it unto a semi truck.
