Business Directory - The Sheriff's Office will work with businesses to provide safety tips and other services to enhance security and prevent crimes to their establishment. Our goal is to register every business in the County jurisdiction in order to promote a rapid response time to calls for emergency. A business directory will be developed by the Community Policing Division to aid in communicating security concerns and notifying owners of problems, including activated burglar alarms or unsecured buildings. Child Safety Seat Inspection - The Sheriff's Office in conjunction with Kane County Safe Kids will be promoting the proper installation and use of child safety seats by hosting periodic inspection events. In past inspection events, child safety seats were installed correctly by parents only 30-40 percent of the time. A certified safety seat inspector will train and help parents install their equipment properly. Child ID (Identification) Program - The Sheriff's Office began a child identification program about ten years ago. The program was initiated to provide a method of identification on children involved in a vehicle crash. The identification card and adhesive sleeve was provided to attach to a child passenger seat. If a lone parent was involved in a crash and rendered unconscious, the paramedic would still have emergency contact information to treat the child.

The program has since expanded to an older child that would not otherwise have a form of identification. The identification card is used to assist emergency responders (fire, paramedic and police) in identifying a lost child and use contact information to reunite them with their parents. They can also provide medical information with the parent's consent. The department does not save this information in order to protect the security of the child and family.
