In 1998 the Kane County Sheriff's Department initiated a program called the Female Garden Crew. The program in it's infancy was intended to give our female population an opportunity to make better use of their time and provide a service to the community. Through the years the Garden Crew has raised and sold produce in an effort to raise funds for battered women and other community groups.
Currently the garden crew has taken on additional duties. It has gone from a seasonal operation to a year round operation. Beside raising a garden the Garden Crew has become a useful tool in cleaning the Sheriff's Department complex. The community also benefits greatly from the Garden Crew due to their efforts in assisting Northern Illinois Food Bank.
