Public Information Officers

The Kane County Sheriff’s Department recognizes the need to have an open and honest relationship with the community it serves and the news media plays a vital role in disseminating information of interest to the public. It is the policy of the Kane County Sheriff’s Department to disseminate accurate and factual information of occurrences of public interest while recognizing the need to maintain the confidentiality of certain records and to protect the rights of those involved in these occurrences. It is the policy of the Kane County Sheriff’s Department to cooperate with members of the news media while maintaining the integrity of departmental operations.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Department utilizes Public Information Officers to coordinate the release of information to members of the media. PIO’s are specifically trained to address the needs of the media and release information to them. Police reports will be available to the members of the media during normal business hours at the front desk of the sheriff’s department. PIO’s will not fax copies of reports to members of the media.
