It is the mission of the Kane
County Drug Rehabilitation Court to break the connection between alcohol
(and other drugs) and related criminal activity. The Court recognizes the
well-documented connection between drug abuse and crime. Through coordinated
efforts, the Judiciary, Court Staff and community service providers seek to
interrupt the cycle of substance abuse so that all citizens of the community
have a greater opportunity to live crime-free lives.
This will be
accomplished through the close monitoring of the behavior of the defendants
in the system and careful attention to their progress during treatment. In
order that treatment may be as meaningful to participants as possible,
defendants who utilize this Court will be required to pay a portion of the
cost of the treatment mandated. It is believed that this Court will be cost
effective due to the defendants’ financial participation and the correction
to the defendants’ lifestyle, which will reduce future use of the court.
Therefore, Kane County Drug Rehabilitation Court will be charged with the
responsibility of handling cases involving non-violent drug using offenders
through an intensive supervision and treatment program. The Drug
Rehabilitation Court will bring the full weight of all interveners (e.g. the
Judge, Probation Officers, Law Enforcement Officers, Prosecutors, Defense
Attorneys and Treatment Specialists as well as other social service
personnel) to bear, forcing the offender to deal with his or her substance
abuse problem or suffer the consequences.
